NEW YORK CITY MIDWIVES

NYC Midwives is an affiliate organization of the New York State Association of Licensed Midwives (NYSALM), the ACNM (American College of Nurse-Midwives) state affiliate. The chapter's executive board is elected by the membership every two years on a rotating basis. In 2000, the 8 New York State Chapter chairs formed NYSALM to assist with the ever changing political and legislative issues facing midwives in this era of managed health care. In 2010, NYSALM began the process of becoming the New York State affiliate of the American College of Nurse Midwives.

New York City Midwives practice an ancient tradition in modern times. The role of midwives has expanded over time to now include not only care of the reproductive age woman but also of women throughout their lives.

Welcome To the Possibility of Membership. Now more than ever NYC Midwives is a vital component of practicing midwives in New York City for exploring and resolving issues and problems related to the practice of midwifery. In addition, it is a platform for working at the state level as well.

Benefit Concert January 29th

MILES 4 MIDWIVES - the largest celebration of midwifery in NYC!

On October 1, 2011 NYC Midwives and Choices in Childbirth will kick off their celebration of National Midwifery Week by co-hosting the Ninth Annual Miles for Midwives run in Prospect Park. The 5K fun-run, the pee-wee race and Birth & Wellness fair is expected to attract more than 400 participants to show their support for the important work of midwives in New York City and to enjoy the wonders of running in the park.

NYSALM officially approved as the NY affiliate of the ACNM

The Board of Directors voted approval in early August. Once NYSALM has developed the micro page that each affiliate has on the ACNM web page, more functions and better communication will be available.

Center for Health Workforce Studies and Departments of Health and Education are conducting a re-registration survey for all midwives in NY state
