Miles for Midwives 2014!
Join NYC Midwives and Choices in Childbirth
in the race for better maternity care!

Saturday, October 4th, 10am-1pm
Park Circle Lawn, southwest corner of Prospect Park, Brooklyn
F/G train to Ft Hamilton

Since 2003, Choices in Childbirth and NYC Midwives have hosted Miles for Midwives on the first Saturday of October. Unfortunately, this year the fun run coincides with Yom Kippur. We have tried to move the event, but the Parks Department has no alternative date to offer us. We are caught between the proverbial rock and hard place. Miles for Midwives is a day when we come together as a community and demonstrate our dedication to providing women with the knowledge for a healthy and joyous delivery. As you well know, our movement needs every voice and those of you who cannot make it to the fun run will be sorely missed. Fortunately, we will have many more exciting activities, announcements, and reasons to come together over the months ahead. We hope you can make it to Miles for Midwives, but if you cannot please stay tuned. To our friends observing Yom Kippur, may you have a meaningful day and a sweet new year.

NYC Midwives is an affiliate organization of the New York State Association of Licensed Midwives (NYSALM), the ACNM (American College of Nurse-Midwives) state affiliate. The chapter's executive board is elected by the membership every two years on a rotating basis. In 2000, the 8 New York State Chapter chairs formed NYSALM to assist with the ever changing political and legislative issues facing midwives in this era of managed health care. In 2010, NYSALM began the process of becoming the New York State affiliate of the American College of Nurse Midwives.

New York City Midwives practice an ancient tradition in modern times. The role of midwives has expanded over time to now include not only care of the reproductive age woman but also of women throughout their lives.
