2006 was another beautiful fall day for Miles for Midwives. This year we grew to 232 registrants! Medals were awarded in age group categories as well as First Midwife, and this year we added the category of First Jogging Stroller. We were very excited to welcome visits from two area politicians as well. Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz presented a proclamation expressing support and appreciation for the excellent care and superior outcomes that midwives provide, and sent the runners off with a bang at the starting line. And City Councilmember Bill de Blasio helped kick off the medal ceremony after the race by introducing his son who was delivered by a local midwife practice! After the race, runners enjoyed refreshments donated by local businesses and visited information tables offering women’s health and other information.
