NYC Midwives is an affiliate organization of The American College of Nurse-Midwives (ACNM). The chapter's executive board is elected by the membership every two years on a rotating basis. In the year 2000, the 8 New York State Chapter chairs formed a new organization called the New York State Association of Licensed Midwives (NYSALM) to assist with the ever changing political and legislative issues facing midwives in this era of managed health care.
New York City Midwives practices an ancient tradition in modern times. We proudly continue our long heritage of caring for women before, during, and after pregnancy.
Our chapter, “NYC Midwives” (formerly known as ACNM, Region II, Chapter 1), is historically the largest and most active chapter in New York State, and you are invited to be a part of it. Becoming a member will bring benefits, both personal and professional, to midwives practicing in the NYC area. Membership will also provide a platform for working at the state level. In addition, your decision to join will also help to strengthen the profession, With your colleagues you will be able to work toward providing the best climate in which you can serve your clients, your community, and your profession. There is strength in numbers.
Among the many reasons to join, we have identified the following:
» Networking with colleagues
» Working with others toward legislative safeguards for midwifery
» Having a voice in matters that benefit you, your clients and your profession
» Meeting and learning from more experienced midwives
» Being informed of job opportunities as soon as they arise
» Sharing clinical tips with colleagues
» Receiving the quarterly newsletter, Metro Midwives, a forum for members to share news and information
» Staying in the loop through access to our newly revamped website
» Knowing that you have helped to pass the torch to midwives who will serve the next generation of women, babies and families
